I had a week between my departure and semester at Yonsei because they start their semester a week later than my home university.

My courses:

  • BIZ3135 - International Marketing

  • IEE3317 - Media Communication in Korea

  • IEE1154 - Korean Popular Culture & the Korean Wave

  • IEE3328 - International Business Communication

I am currently taking 4 classes (12 credits), two in-person, one hybrid, and one online. Three of these classes will transfer back as business credits and my Media Comm. in Korea class will just be an elective credit.

My class schedule (the gray slots are pre-recorded lectures):

IEE3317 is hybrid course because there's only one in-person class on Monday, and a pre-recorded lecture on Wednesday, which you can watch by the end of the week (meaning I don't need to necessarily watch it on Wednesday's time slot). Same goes for IEE3328, except Wednesday's class is online and Friday's class is a pre-recorded lecture due by the end of the week as well. Yonsei uses LearnUs (their version of UH's Laulima) as their main platform to keep track of attendance for pre-recorded lectures and other announcements or activities. All in all, I only have classes on Monday and Wednesdays, leaving the other days free!

First Day of Classes

On my first day, I technically only had Media Comm. in Korea because I wasn't officially registered for International Marketing. I still attended the first class in order to not miss anything; two days after, it was Yonsei's add & drop period, so I got on the waitlist for International Marketing in the morning and got off of it by the afternoon on the same day.

One of my classes is in the New Millenium Hall, which is a separate building from the main campus and it's literally right behind the dorms. My other two in-person classes was located on the actual campus, which was approximately a 10-15 minute walk from the dorm. I actually stepped foot on campus a couple days prior and was so amazed to see Yonsei's campus, especially their famous Underwood Hall, which I unfortunately do not have any classes in.

My 'IEE' courses are from the study abroad catalog, which means it only included exchange students, whereas my 'BIZ' course for International Marketing included both Yonsei students and exchange students. Just last week, we had Buddies' Night from the Mentors Club at Yonsei, as well as a Welcome Party hosted by the International Yonsei Community (IYC). I was able to meet both local and exchange students. As someone who only stayed in Hawai'i, it was interesting to meet so many diverse people outside of what I am used to.
